Joel Degen’s pieces are ‘constructed’ using 18ct gold or titanium rivets, rather than ‘sculpted’. Brooches, necklaces, pendants, cufflinks and earrings featuring anodised titanium, stainless steel and 18ct gold elements use similar construction techniques. The effect produced by the marriage of modern industrial methods with traditional metals, as well as the use of unorthodox approaches to construction, is reinforced by the cool, unfussy character of the design. Nodding references to our technological environment underpin the whole collection.

Joel Degen pieces are held at The Goldsmiths Hall, The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Australia, and other museums and institutions throughout the world. He has exhibited widely.
