Textile artist Ruth Harries is interested in the traces and details of lines and marks left behind in our everyday lives. Her works consider the diverse qualities and characteristics of mark-making produced by writing, drawing, painting and scribbling, interpreted through the tactile quality of stitch, thread and textiles. Both figurative and abstract elements appear in Harries’ work. They often represent the emotionally charged atmospheres, recollections, memories and emotions within a family. She reflects on the subtle and intimate traces of life, on the transience of being and our rites of passage.
