Celebrating Janice Tchalenko

21 February - 14 March 2020

Janice Tchalenko’s late work is both painterly and full of energy, the pieces singing through their exuberant mark making and a joyous use of colour. Contemporary Applied Arts is showing a carefully selected group of work from the potter’s last firings, when she had both changed her kiln and pushed her practice to new and exciting areas of exploration, of form and in the use of glaze.

The gallery also premieres a new film of Janice made by John Tchalenko, Belinda Parsons and Luke Tchalenko. This intimate documentary watches Janice as she works in her studio and captures thoughts and reflections on a long life working with clay and colour.

The majority of the rare work on display, her last pieces, are offered for sale in the gallery and in our online shop. The selection of pieces makes clear why Janice is admired by both her peers and collectors.
