Stewart developed the Freedom series to be able to play with the glass; to enjoy the material as he created large scale pieces bringing texture to the hot glass on a bed of 6" nails.
This seemingly uninhibited approach has imbued the work with a tangible enjoyment but still speaks of incredible skill. Stewart reads and works ‘with’ the material with spontaneity of decision and thought in order to execute these pieces.
As in much glass blowing, unique pieces sometimes get rejected as they come out of the kiln - the asymmetric composition of form and surfaces, coupled with the abstract colour placement might not work in the intended way.
