‘Classical Chroma’ tells the story of the ancient Greeks’ perception of the colour blue. It's a widely held belief that there is no single word in Ancient Greek for ‘blue’, often evidenced by Homer’s description of the sea as ‘wine dark’ and the sky as ‘bronze’. This could be simply poetic metaphor or is it that blue comes in many hues and seems to touch all elements of the colour scale? This collection is inspired by Greece where even the light is infused with blue.

The ancient Greeks were fascinated by colour; our favourite is Plato’s categorisation of the primary colours as ‘white’, ‘black’, ‘red’ and ‘brilliant’. Perceiving colour as shine or lustre is a wonderful reflection of Platonic idealism.
