Wagatabon-inspired tea tray. Hand carved from a piece of wind fallen Ash(Fraxinus excelsior) harvested from Abney park cemetary in Stoke Newington. Wagatabon are distinctive carved wooden trays that were historically made by roof shingle makers in Wagatani, Japan. Turned, carved and lacquered wooden teapot. Matching set of two turned and lacquered wooden vessels. Teapot and vessels are made from a single log of pear wood (Pyruscommunis), sourced from a private garden in Hackney. They are lacquered with Urushi - which comes from the from the sap of the lacquer tree(toxicodendron vernicifluum). Urushi is a remarkable natural finish thathas been used on tableware for centuries, due to its strength andresistance and is famously used on Japanese rice and miso bowls. Product care: Hand wash in warm soapy water and leave to dry over a draining board. Woodenware should not be left to soak and should not go in the dishwasher or the microwave!
